About Team Tradie

WHO WE ARE //

Launching in 2019, Team Tradie is the one and only Volkswagen team to take on the inaugural TCR Series in Australia, with two VW Golf GTI TCR cars.

With over 25 years professional racing experience and counting; leading driver Jason Bright is a household name in the Australian Touring Car scene.

Bright’s distinguished career has seen him achieve 260 Supercar race starts, claim 50 podium finishes including winning the prestigious Bathurst 1000, Adelaide 500 and Sandown 500.

WHAT WE DO //

Debuting in 2015, the TCR Series combines top-class racing with series-based technology. The series, formulated by former World Touring Car Championship manager Marciello Lotti, was developed as a cost-effective touring car racing alternative.

Eligible cars include all front-wheel driver C-segment hatchbacks or sedans, powered by production-based turbocharged petrol engines with a capacity of up to 2-litres.

There are currently 12 national or regional series using the TCR Regulations as their rule book, with 13 different manufacturers and over 600 cars showcasing some of the most breath-taking, exciting and door to door action.

TCR will undoubtedly be the breakout racing category in Australia, with some of

Australia’s biggest and best names signing on to take part in the series. The hype… is real!

The TCR Series will take centre stage as part of the Shannons Nationals Series, with all events to be broadcast LIVE on SBS, plus additional live streaming and highlight programs.

THE CARS //

Under the bonnet is a 2.0 litre, four-cylinder, four-valve engine with turbocharging and direct injection as found in Golf GTI road car series; the racing version delivers 257kw/350 PS and generates a maximum torque of 420Nm. The Golf GTI TCR accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds, with a maximum speed of around 250km/h.

The two VW Golf GTI TCR cars were purchased from Engstler Motorsport, a German racing group who have achieved success in several European and Asian touring car categories including WTCC and TCR.

After a successful weekend at the Sepang round of the TCR Asia series under the watchful eye of Bright in April 2019, the cars were shipped to Australia and transformed into Team Tradie colours, ready for the season ahead.
